First Class Disscussion

Since I missed class, I thought I'd share who my favorite teacher was. I've had lot over the years. When I was in sixth grade, I still hated math. My math teacher was full of whit and determination to make us learn, and I loved that about her. She made me love math. I've had two other math teachers that I've loved in both middle, and high school. They both had such passion and they made me want to learn math. It made me fall in love, and it made math my favorite subject. I soon learned in sixth grade that I was actually quite good at math. It made me consider being a math teacher at one point because of the awesome math teachers in my past.
I am excited, nervous, and ready to tackle this class. I look forward to seeing what new information I'm going to learn to build on my previous knowledge on lesson plans, journal entries, etc. I have written many lesson plans in the past, but never for a whole unit so I'm looking forward to learning how to do that!

  1. I am so glad to hear you had great math teachers! I hear the opposite, so many times. The unit is easy. Just wait!

  2. Rachel,
I too disliked math growing up and in school but I did not have a change of heart until my college years. I had two math professors that were just amazing and let me ask all the questions I needed so I understood what was going on. I think it depends on the teacher as to how the students react/absorb the information being presented. I am glad you were able to find your love for math!

  3. Rachel,
I am one of those people that wishes I was good at math because I have struggled with it for so long all through school that I am now to the point were some of sticks and some of it I can never get down and this is why I am a early elementary major not secondary lol I haven't written any lesson plans using the Madeline Hunter format as I have been a preschool teacher and only written simple lesson plans as they are babies and toddlers they are simpler tasks opposed to high school or even early elementary, do you find it easier to write them now that you know the format? Great post and good luck throughout this class. :)

  4. I feel like I barely know what I am doing so far in this class. But, that is why I am in college; because I am willing to learn new things. I am on a comfortable basis with Math and that is only due to lots of practice and having the Math teacher I had in my freshman year of high school; who was also my college Math teacher. I love technology and learning how to use it to benefit me. However, I am usually one of the last people to know about new technologies, despite the trying, lol. I am hanging in there, here in this class. I enjoy the teacher's positive attitude about everything. I just hope I can grasp on to all the new information.
