The Hunger Games by: Suzanne Collins
"May the odds be ever in your favor."
Can you tell me the jist of the book?
This book takes place in a time where there are 12 districts and the Capital. Each year they draw the names of one boy and one girl from each district to go into the Hunger Games. This year, Katniss' sister's name was drawn and she volunteered to take her place. Peeta
is the boy that is chosen. In the Hunger Games, it is a fight to the death
until there is one victor left standing. This year, the Capital controllers changed it mid-game to be that
2 people from the same district can win. This means that Katniss and Peeta can
work together to survive the Hunger Games. Katniss is very smart and does
everything she can to outsmart the Capital to show them that she will not lead
into their games, and they are not happy about it. Follow their journey to see
if they make it out of the Hunger Games alive.
Why should I read it?
You should read this book if you like reading about a world that is different than ours. This book doesn't have states or cities, but districts that each specialize in their own thing. That's what they are known for. Katniss is from district 12 which is known for coal production. The Capital is like their government; they are in control of everything. This book shows how the norms are starting to change when Katniss enters the Hunger games. I think this is a great book for young readers to read because it shows them that if they don't agree with something, they should challenge the system and stand up for what they believe in. In today's society, there is a lot of controversial things happening, and people have a lot of opinions about it. This book shows that it's okay to have a different opinion and that you have to do what is right for you.
Your opinion?
I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. ★★★★★
I am giving this book 5 stars because it kept me engaged the whole time. I wanted to know what would happen next in the Hunger games. I wanted to see what Katniss would do next to survive and to piss off the Capital. I loved seeing the way her mind worked throughout the whole story, and I can't wait to continue reading the rest of the series. It's something that I know will keep me on the edge of my seat to see what will happen next!
