Tonight, I presented my lesson to the class. I did my lesson over "Flamingo Teamwork." One suggestion I had from Professor Steffes is that I can show a live feed of Flamingos from the Chicago Zoo. I think this would be a great addition to my lesson, and would really capture my student's attention. I didn't find the one from Chicago, but one from the zoo in Houston! Here is is if you would like to check out some flamingos :)
Houston Zoo Flamingos
I like that idea. Kids like web cams. Every spring when I go to Eldon South, they are watching the live Eagle web cam and waiting for the eggs to hatch. Seeing people’s lesson plans on the whiteboard helped. I was making them harder than they needed to be as well.
ReplyDeleteRachel,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog! I also love your idea of teaching about flamingos to the students. There are some kiddos in this area who have never gotten to go on vacation to see a flamingo or even go to the zoo to see them. Having a lesson like this helps for those students to be able to see "outside the box" at all the wonderful creatures of the world. Great job!

I will agree with you Rachel, everyone did a great job and their lessons were all full of information. I can also say, when there are so many presentations like there were this week, my mind is spinning with different thoughts and ideas. It reminds me of what teaching is really going to be like, there will be so much information thrown at us and we will just have to get through it the best we can. Professor Steffes is very talented, she has gave me so many ideas on what to include in lessons and how to tweak things to make them sound much better.
ReplyDeleteGood grief, yes, it was the Houston Zoo. I'm glad you found it. I'm watching it now! :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your unique subject/topic matter Rachel! It was very unique and insightful for students. I love the addition of the live webcam also! As you can imagine, National Geographic has a lot of useful information about flamingos. It includes important information, and fun facts for kids, such as a they are faster than a child walking (2 mph vs. 31-37 mph). Giving great perspective for kiddos! Great presentation Rachel!
