Introduction for Teaching Language Arts

Hello!
My name is Rachel Scott. I am getting my degree in Elementary Education, and will be graduating in December. I have three summer classes before I get to move on to Student Teaching in the Fall. I will be in a third grade classroom at New Haven Elementary here in Columbia and I am so excited to get started! I also have worked at this school for the past two years as a paraprofessional. Some days are definitely harder than others.

I have lived in Columbia since I was in seventh grade, but moved around and lived in 5 states before that. I lived in Nebraska, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin, and Illinois. I enjoy going to the movies ( just saw Endgame last weekend, OMG), hanging out with friends, going to concerts, watching my sister play volleyball, and going to my brothers band concerts.

Currently, I am trying to get back into reading, and have felt a sudden urge to want to read again. I have started to read Grey, Christian's perspective from the 50 Shades books. I have picked this book up many times, but never made progress on it. I'm also starting to read To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han because the movie recently came out on Netflix. and I loved her other series when I was in 8th grade. I decided I should read this one too!

  1. It is nice to get to know you through the blog! It sounds like you are moving right along with school and your career in teaching. I work as a para as well and agree, some days can be VERY challenging, but it is great experience to gain. I have heard good things about New Haven- I hope you continue to enjoy your time there.
Finding the time to read books for enjoyment has been hard while in school, it feels as though there is only enough time to get through the textbooks! I took on a heavy schedule this year and summer (15 hours per semester and 3 summer courses, yuck!). A friend of mine and myself decided to start a book club to motivate ourselves to read more books for enjoyment rather than just learning for a class. We just finished "The Woman in the Window" and it was so good! We need to look into other good books for the next round- let me know if you have other books you have enjoyed!
