Week 1: 2 Truths-1 Lie

Here we go! Summer classes have started and this is my one class for the first 8 weeks. I feel like the class last night had a good overview of everything we will be talking about over the next 8 weeks. While it feels a little bit overwhelming, I know that that's how it always feels the first night of class. I am excited to create a unit plan using ELA, since it is an area I'm not as confident in teaching. To clarify, we have to use ELA with a project and a writing assignment with rubrics... Did I understand that right? Will creating an opinion piece work if they have to create a rough draft on a planner paper and then create an online book with pictures count as their project? I know I asked that in class, but you said you wanted some time to think about it. Just let me know your thoughts and I can come up with another idea!

I wanted to use this website to do it because I saw the third graders this year do it and really enjoy it!

2 Truths, 1 Lie
1. I had to go to speech for my R/S sounds, even thought they are both in my name
2. I went to 3 different elementary schools in 3 different states growing up
2. My mom was a 2nd grade teacher

Good Luck 😀

  1. Our first class was very overwhelming, but I do like that we got a good overview of the first few assignments. That helps me feel like I am getting the best information ahead of time! I am still confused on what to do for the assessments in the different forms- I have not tried the backward design for a unit plan and am excited to see how the process pans out.
I checked out the link you provided and thought it was really useful. This is a great way to expose kids to more books and a way for them to create their own. I wonder if this is something they can access at home too because this could help close the gap for students who do not get enough reading time outside of school.
I am unsure of if the tells that have the 2 are the truths or if I am supposed to guess. If you moved around that much as a child in Elementary school- that is crazy! Why did you have to move around so much at the beginning of your schooling years?

    1. My dad used to open Target stores so we would move around to do that! He's with Bass Pro now, so that's why we've stayed in Columbia the past 10 years!

  2. I think #3 is the lie. But I don't have a reason for saying that! :)

  3. I'm excited for this class to get going. ELA is not my strong suit so I'm excited to learn how to teach it and how to do it effectively. Our first class was a little overwhelming but it was all good information. For your 2 truths, 1 lie I think #3 is a lie?? (I forgot to do mine in my post!) Excited to grow and learn with everyone.

  4. Number 3 was my lie! My grandma was a teacher, but my mom is a paraprofessional.
