This is the first word wall the caught my eye. I love the simplicity of it, and how it's not in your face like some other word walls I've seen. I would have this up on a wall in my classroom and use it like a typical word wall. I would have student's go up and look for words to spell before asking me, and have them practice words during word work, or station time.

I would use this in a kindergarten or first grade classroom. After reviewing a sound, I would have a student of the week that would get to place the magnets with the pictures in the correct box. The rest of the class would have to decide if the magnet was placed in the right sound box. Throughout the year, more and more pictures will be added, and new pictures can get added as more questions are asked about how to spell certain words.

I really like the idea of a portable word wall. It allows for the students to take the word rings down to help with spelling, or to help with a word work job. You can add words as the year goes on, like frequently misspelled words, word study words, and the grade level list of words. It's truly portable, and it's a great space saver in the classroom!

  1. The watercolor example was really pretty, I think that was my favorite. I also really like the idea of a "portable word wall" for kids to use. It can be hard to see a lot of the words on a word wall from their seats in the room and this is a way for them to have immediate access to the words they need. I think this could be changed to help them with different subjects vocabulary, too. Such as math and science and their specific words and definitions.

  2. I love the idea of the portable word walls. It provides convenience for the students and they are able to share with one another. I can't wait to incorporate word walls in my future classroom.
